Important people
Sam Houston-
Sam Houston was a war hero and politician who had faced many opsticals. He immagrated to Texas, where he soon found himself caught up in the chaos of war. In 1836 he was named Commander in chief of all Texan forces. His army lost many men in the Alamo and other battles, but he had won a huge battle against Lopez at San Jacinto. After the war, he served as President of the Republic of Texas and then Governor of Texas after Texas joined USA.
Stephen Autsin
Stephen F. Austin was a talented lawyer who inherited a land grant in Mexican Texas from his father. Austin was the leader of this migration, he led hundreds of settlers west, arranging their land claims with the Mexican government. He is known as the father of Texas. After he was jailed in Mexico City, he became one of the leading proponents of Texas Independence, starting the march for freedom.
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna-
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna made himself the president of Mexico from 1833 to 1855. He was also a very disastrous president because he lost a massive amount of Mexican land. After losing to America in the Mexican War he lost all of Texas and parts of Western America. He lead an immense army that defeated the Texan rebels at the Battle of the Alamo. Santa Anna divided his forces, which allowing Sam Houston to surprise him at the Battle of San Jacinto. Santa Anna was captured and forced to negotiate with the Mexican government for recognition of Texas' independence and sign papers saying he recognized the Republic of Texas.
Davy Crockett-
David Crockett was an American frontiersman and politician. Later, he served in the US Congress before heading west into Texas. In Texas he grew a great sympathy for the people of Texas. He thought thqat it would be good for his political cerrier so hejoined the Texas army
